After nine years of building MAATÏ MAATÏ, countless workshops, international gatherings and the creation of one of Berlin’s pioneering consciousness spaces, founder Leonie Lepenos has brought the next chapter of the brand home.

This early summer, The Sacred Space by MAATÏ MAATÏ officially opened its doors on the Greek island of Lefkada. Lefkada is located in the Ionian Sea amongst olive groves, wild Mediterranean landscape and milky turquoise waters - across Skorpios, the legendary private island once owned by Aristotle Onassis. Nearby lies Kalamos, the small island where Leonie’s great-grandmother Olympia was born. For Leonie, the re-opening marks far more than a new location. It represents a return to lineage, landscape and a way of life that has quietly shaped MAATÏ MAATÏ from the very beginning.
The End of One Chapter
When The Sacred Space first opened in Berlin in 2020, it quickly became one of the city’s earliest dedicated homes for consciousness, healing, movement and a modern spiritual community. Long before wellness and spirituality became mainstream, the space gathered a vibrant international community of teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, creatives and seekers for something deeper, something lighter, something different. Over the following years, hundreds passed through its doors. Deepest transformations and miracles happened quietly.
Yet by 2025, something had shifted - the vision had not become smaller.
But what came through was clear:
“The pioneer work in Berlin was done,” says Leonie Lepenos.
“What we had built in Berlin was so powerful, deeply transformative and beautiful. But I could feel that the next chapter wasn’t meant to happen there. There was a very strong calling towards Greece. Towards the sea. Towards wild, untamed nature. Towards creating something that could not exist within four walls in a city.”
So she closed the doors. And followed the call. Without a clear plan - but guided by intuition and trust.

Returning to the Source
Lefkada is often described as one of Greece’s best-kept secrets.
Connected to the mainland by a bridge yet retaining the feeling of an island untouched by time, it is a place of dramatic cliffs, milky turquoise waters, ancient olive trees and an energy that feels distinctly different from the polished glamour of the more familiar Cycladic destinations. For Lepenos, it is also personal. Her father is Greek. Her family roots are woven throughout the Ionian Islands and she spent all her summers from her early childhood on in the Ionian Sea. It was her childhood dream to once move and create on Lefkada. Which she totally forgot when growing up. Maybe that´s why instead of her previous plan of moving to Los Angeles - she returned here. To her Greek roots in the Ionian Sea, which even Homer described in his Odyssey as "Home".
The result is a project that feels both deeply international and unmistakably local.

More Than a Studio
The Sacred Space is not simply a yoga studio. Nor is it a retreat centre. Or a boutique. It is the physical expression of the MAATÏ MAATÏ universe. A living space. A portal. A place where movement, healing arts, conscious living, design, culture and community intersect. Guests can attend meditation or yoga classes, join workshops and healing arts experiences, gather for community evenings or simply spend time exploring the carefully curated showroom and store.
Alongside MAATÏ MAATÏ’s Spiritual Luxury collections, visitors will discover a selection of conscious lifestyle brands for conscious living such as clean beauty, supplement, ritual tools or high end design objects from around the world — from Los Angeles, Athens and Berlin to Paris and Milan — each chosen personally by Lepenos. The atmosphere feels less like a wellness destination and more like stepping into the home of a well-travelled friend with impeccable taste and a deep appreciation for beauty, ritual and meaningful living.

The Beginning of Something Bigger
The opening of The Sacred Space signals the beginning of a broader vision for MAATÏ MAATÏ on the Ionian Islands. Upcoming projects include international retreats, artist and healing arts residencies, educational programmes and the launch of NECTÅÅR — a house apothecary inspired by Ancient Greece and the natural abundance of the Mediterranean (available from now on exclusively at The Sacred Space in Lefkada - soon launching online)
At its core, however, the mission remains unchanged.
To create spaces, products and experiences that help people reconnect with themselves and with what matters most. Nine years after MAATÏ MAATÏ first began, The Sacred Space has found a new home. Not in a city. Not in a trend. But in a landscape that has been waiting all along. And somehow, this feels less like an arrival than the start of everything that comes next - gently and easily from: Home.
